A commitment to the arts, entertainment, and local culture is woven throughout all the plans.

Whether it’s the state-of-the-art movie theaters, a refurbished Freedom Square, or expanded public performance space, Baldwin Hills Crenshaw will continue to serve as an art and cultural destination within South Los Angeles.

Baldwin Hills Crenshaw will offer:

  • Free arts and cultural events year round
  • Free family and kids programming year round
  • The Crenshaw Farmers’ Market
  • An African American Art Museum
  • Free fitness classes
  • Seasonal special events including Halloween Trick or Treating and Easter Egg Hunts

The Baldwin Hills Crenshaw transformation promises to be an unprecedented investment along the Crenshaw Corridor – one that is expected to create thousands of construction and permanent jobs and stimulate the local economy.

The project is estimated to provide hundreds of millions of dollars in direct investment for the Crenshaw area and contribute vital tax revenues for the region to support critical city services, such as tree trimming and street improvements in South L.A.

The entire development will be conveniently linked to Metro’s Crenshaw/LAX Line, including an entrance to the new station being built on the west side of Crenshaw, just south of MLK Boulevard.

When combined with the existing Metro bus stops that serve Baldwin Hills Crenshaw, these subway access points will provide easier access to on-site shopping, entertainment, and social gathering opportunities, all of which are components of a transit-oriented development.

The transformation will create a more walkable community with the addition of over seven acres of new open space, street-facing retail stores, widened sidewalks and walkways, new street furniture and bus shelters, and striped and signalized crosswalks.

We are committed to maintaining high environmental standards throughout the transformation by using sustainable design strategies that emphasize recycling, conservation, energy efficiency, and the use of quality, durable products.

We anticipate Baldwin Hills Crenshaw’s energy efficient components and water conservation measures will adhere to LEED Silver standards. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) provides a nationally-accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of green buildings.

Our environmental measures include:

  • Installing energy-efficient lighting and cooling systems
  • Introducing solar energy technologies
  • Installing low-flow toilets, faucets and clothes washers
  • Landscaping with native or drought-resistant plants
